U.S. Olympic Bronze Medalist Marti Malloy and fellow Olympian Nick Delpopolo take to the mats tomorrow at the World Championships in Rio de Janeiro.

Fighting at 57 kg. Malloy (USA Judo Training Site, San Jose State University Judo/NYAC, San Jose, CA) was part of the historic victory in London last summer, taking bronze alongside Kayla Harrison’s gold medal. Malloy went on to take a gold medal at the Grand Prix Miami in June. She is now ranked No. 10 in the world as she drives for the podium in Rio on Day Three of competition. Also fighting in the 57 kg. division is Hana Carmichael (USA Judo Training Site, Pedro's Judo Center/NYAC, Wakefield, MA).

Delpopolo (Budokan Judo Club, Miami, FL) is fighting tomorrow in the 73 kg. division, one of the largest at the World Championships this year with 79 fighters filling the four pools that funnel into the semi-finals.

Today, the second day of competition in Rio, Japan added a second gold medal to the national tally with Masashi Ebinuma besting Kazakhstan’s Azamat Mukanov in the finals of men’s 66 kg division. Majlinda Kelmendi of Kosovo caught Brazil’s Erika Miranda for the gold in the women’s 52 kg. division.
