GENERAL INFORMATION

The following information is VERY important to your ability to participate. In order to be eligible to represent the United States at International Judo competition, you MUST be a United States citizen, and you MUST be a member of USA Judo.

Please read below for essential information that you will need in order to make your travel, housing, insurance and participation arrangements.

WHO IS TRAVELING: Each MINOR athlete MUST be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for this trip. You will need to provide a list of all of the persons who will be traveling with the athlete to us as soon as possible. (Include ALL persons – parents, siblings, coaches etc). This is necessary and must be supplied before we submit registrations to the hosting countries.

INSURANCE – The United States Olympic Committee has a special arrangement with MedEx and they are able to provide us with sport-related coverage in case of illness or injury in a foreign country. EVEN THOUGH you may have great insurance, that does not mean that other countries accept it. In many cases, if someone needs medical service they have to pay for it on the spot and then sort out the coverage with their insurance company once they get home. Medex takes the headaches out of that and provides for basic coverages as well as medical evacuation if necessary. The cost is only $3.00 per day and you can also arrange your coverage through USA Judo. Please read the MedEx attachments that accompany this letter.

COACHES – Personal Coaches are welcome and encouraged to make the above  trips. It is USA Judo policy to request credentials for all personal coaches who attend who a) have an athlete competing, b) are certified USA Judo Coaches, c) have current background checks on file, and d) are current USA Judo members. The credentials we get have always gotten the coaches into the events and to the training areas. The question of whether they can actually get in the chair and coach matside is one that is determined by the hosts at the events and is out of our control. MOST times our coaches have been able to coach but matside access has occasionally been denied.

AIR TRAVEL

Everyone is responsible for their own arrangements for air travel. Once you have made a decision, you have notified me accordingly and you have received a confirmation, you will want to start shopping for plane tickets.  We understand that many people use their own agencies or on-line services but please be advised – USA Judo has had great success using the travel agency that is listed below. PLEASE feel free to call to check prices and coordinate flights with others:
