The International Judo Federation will hold a seminar on judo for children, “Building Better Societies Through Judo,” in Miami this summer immediately after the World Cadet Championships, a major international tournament for youth.
The goal of the Aug. 12 seminar will be to encourage national judo organizations to set up junior judo programs and to develop strategies and high standards for promoting judo among youth.
Judo is the second most practiced sport in the world, second only to soccer. The seminar will be held in Miami and follow the World Cadet Championships, which is sanctioned by the IJF and hosted by USA Judo.
The IJF and USA Judo believe that judo is an excellent sport not only for building physical fitness among youth but also their sense of confidence, self-esteem and mutual respect. The lessons that children learn on the mats, they take with them through their whole lives and benefit the communities where they live and work.
