The Thursby family of Cedar Hill, Texas, has made a generous donation to USA Judo, fulfilling a challenge grant for $35,000 by the U.S. Olympic Committee, effectively providing a total of $70,000 to advance the sport and build future elite teams.

“This is a great gift to USA Judo because it establishes a very nice pattern of giving by the Thursby family as well as serves as an example to the USA Judo family to imitate,” said USA Judo CEO Jose Rodriguez.  “The Thursby family not only has supported judo in the past with their funding, but also with their hard work as they have time and again shown up at our events and they don't mind rolling up their sleeves to help our organization be successful."

The family has strong roots in the sport. Jessica Wooldridge, daughter to Lynn Wooldridge-Thursby and Bill Thursby, is a former USA Judo nationally ranked junior and senior athlete. Granddaughters Hope Carpenter and Macy Haze are currently participating in judo as well.  The entire family has regularly donated their time over a couple decades at national, regional and local events making many personal contributions of their time as well as financially.

Since 2005 the family has supported multiple individual athletes as well as various teams including the Olympic Training Center program in Colorado Springs and numerous Texas judo clubs.

“My family and I saw this as a huge opportunity to support USA Judo and allow them the ability to secure even more funding for the athletes and their programs,” said Lynn Wooldridge.  Wooldridge has also been active in judo for the past 21 years, through practicing and teaching youth as well as serving as the All-Star Chairman for Texas Judo for eight of those years.

The family owns Arlington-based Thursby Software Systems, a leader in enterprise Apple iPad, iPhone and Mac integration with Microsoft focused infrastructure, cloud-based systems and on-demand software. More than 70,000 clients from around the world include the Pentagon, Johns Hopkins, the Discovery Channel and BMW.  Support ranges from individual devices (BYOD) to organizationally furnished equipment across multiple sites and countries. The Thursbys also operate the Thursby Family Charitable Foundation geared at supporting a wide range of philanthropic causes.

"On behalf of our Board of Directors we thank the Thursby family for their continuous generosity to our organization and our sport. I hope this breaks the ice once and for all, and it triggers an avalanche of donations from other members of USA Judo," stated USA Judo President Lance Nading.
