Placing 5th were Jacob Larsen of Boulder Judo Training Center/OTC in Colorado, who fought Friday, and Aaron Kinihiro of NYAC/Team FORCE in Wakefield, Mass.

“We didn't expect this tournament to be as hard as it was and everyone came to fight and represent our flag and we're proud of the results,” said Jhonny Prado, head coach of Ki-Itsu-Sai National Training Site, who led the team to Guayaguil, Ecuador.

The USA Judo victories were thick with dramatic throws and pins. Some of the highlights:

Kunihiro beat Paraguay in the first round by ippon seionage. In his second round he beat Peru in golden score with kouchi gari for ippon. He then placed 5th after falling to Brazil and then to Cuba by yuko in a very close match.

Delgado threw a Colombian with uchimata for ippon in her first round, later beat Mexico with a sode for ippon and then Peru with an osoto gari for ippon.

Shiraishi in repechage pinned a Chilean and Colombian for ippons.
