Hannah Martin, 63 kg (NYAC/Jason Morris Judo, Glenville, NY), went 3-1 to capture a silver medal at the World Cup Buenos Aeries over the weekend.

This was Martin’s third World Cup medal this year, adding the silver to a gold she won at a World Cup tournament in El Salvador and a bronze she grabbed at USA Judo’s World Cup Miami. On a roll this year, Martin also took her first national championship at the USA Judo’s Senior Nationals in April.

Martin hails from Jason Morris Judo, run by U.S. Olympic silver medalist Jason Morris. Also from Morris’ club are 2012 US Olympic team members Nick Delpopolo, 73 kg, and Kyle Vashkulat, 100 kg. All three are supported from the New York Athletic Club.

Martin defeated Brazil’s Manoella Costa, Argenttian’s Catalina Couzo and Ecuador’s Estefania Garcia on her way to the final where she faced veteran Katherine Campos of Brazil. Campos edged Martin by the smallest of margins, 2-1 penalties. Her performance at this World Cup allows Martin to jump 10 spots from No. 48 internationally all the way to a career high, No. 38.

Martin had already claimed the No. 1 ranking in the United States this year but this further solidifies her position. "Hannah has had a terrific first half of the season, due to her work ethic" said Morris. "She is only going to get better."
