Women In Sports - Focus of IOC Conference

"Together Stronger" was the focus of the 5th World Conference on Women and Sport last week organized by the International Olympic Committee in Los Angeles.
USA Judo's Director of Membership and Events, Corinne Shigemoto, attended the event.
Speakers, seminars and panels promoted the idea that while much progress has been made, further advancement and equality in sports is needed and that is within grasp of women globally. Speakers included Actress Geena Davis, who is active in women's sports and women's rights, and Olympic leaders including IOC president Jacques Rogge, and Lord Sebastian Coe, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Games of the XXX Olympiad, London 2012.
The IOC organizes these conferences on women and sports with the objective of analyzing the progress made within the Olympic Movement and identifying ways to improve and increase the participation of women in the world of sport. About 600 participants from more than 130 countries attended the recent conference in Los Angeles.
