Grappling World Team Slots Available to Four U.S. Athletes Per Weight Division

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) - USA Judo is pleased to announce that the 2009 World Grappling Championships, Dec. 12-13 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., will be open to four U.S. athletes per weight division.   

The World Grappling Championships will be open to competitors in both the gi and no-gi division.  

To be eligible for the World Team, athletes must compete in the 2009 U.S. Grappling World Team Trials which will be held at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Ariz., October 22-24.  

Competition will be conducted in both gi and no-gi divisions under the rules of FILA, the international federation of wrestling and will be open to USA Judo members.
The no-gi division will be contested at the Trials on Oct. 23 and the gi division will be held on Oct. 24. 

The U.S. Grappling World Team Trials will be an open tournament for senior-level male and female grapplers born in 1989 or earlier.  Male athletes born between 1990-1991 and female athletes born between 1990-1992 may compete with medical consent. There will be no pre-qualification required to enter the competition.
Weight divisions will be contested as follows:

Men's 60kg, 66kg, 74kg, 84kg, 96kg, 120kg and Open

Women's 50kg, 55kg, 63kg, 67kg and Open

The competition will be hosted alongside the Sunkist Kids International Open, which is a major international wrestling tournament in the three Olympic wrestling styles. The Sunkist Kids International will be hosted October 23-25.

ONLINE REGISTRATION (Credit Card only): Online registration via credit card is available at TrackWrestling until 5:00 PM (Mountain) Tuesday, October 20th. Entry fee for participants registering online is $75 per style. The OFFICIAL WAIVER & REGISTRATION FORMS will be completed electronically when registering online.

ON-SITE REGISTRATION: Entry fee for participants registering at the door is $85 per style. If registering on-site, the OFFICIAL WAIVER & REGISTRATION FORMS must be accurately completed and filed at registration.
