Robert Fukuda Selected as a Referee for the 2009 Senior World Championships

USA Judo is pleased to announce that Robert Fukuda (Fruitland, Idaho) has been selected as one of the top 33 referees in the world and will represent the United States as a referee at the 2009 Senior World Championships, Aug. 26-30 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Fukuda, who was chosen for the role by the International Judo Federation, was a referee at the 2008 and 2009 Senior Pan American Championships as well as the 2006 and 2008 Junior World Championships.

"It is great to see our USA referees continuing to be recognized by the IJF for their quality of refereeing at the world level," said USA Judo President Lance Nading (Denver, Colo.) "USA Judo is proud of Robert Fukuda's appointment and wish him much success at the Worlds."

Gary Berliner (Cumming, Ga.), a two-time referee at the Paralympic Games, also was recognized by the IJF as an alternate to the referee team.
