Jessica Irons Wins Benito Juarez Championships

Fifteen-year-old Jessica Irons (Yorkville, Ill. / Yorkville Judo) won her first senior international tournament and had the top finish for a U.S. player when she earned a gold medal in the 52kg division at the Benito Juarez Championships in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico on Saturday.

Irons was undefeated in each of her three matches and was one of four U.S. players who won medals over the weekend at the D-Level point tournament.

Dan Gomez (College Station, Texas / Texas A&M Judo) repeated his 60kg bronze medal from 2007 on Saturday with a 3-1 record.

Robert Turnquest (Honolulu, Hawaii / Kamehameha Judo) and Chris Round (Wakefield, Mass. / USA Judo National Team FORCE) each went 2-1 on Friday and won bronze medals in the 81kg and 90kg divisions, respectively. 

Round and Turnquest both fought in the Open division on Saturday as well with Round placing fifth and Turnquest finishing seventh.
