USA Judo would like to announce to all of its members and national federations interested in entering athletes in the 2008 U.S. Open that the dates of this event have been changed to Sept. 26-28.
The U.S. Open, a USA Judo Senior B-Level Point Tournament, will be held at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. This elite senior tournament draws competitors from more than 20 nations throughout Europe, Asia, North and South America and Oceania annually.
This change is due to the recently announced change of dates by the International Judo Federation of the World Junior Championships which will be held Oct. 23-26 in Bangkok, Thailand.
U.S. Open competition will be held for the senior divisions from Sept. 26-27 and the masters (30-years-old and over) and kata (forms) divisions on Sept. 28. A training camp will be held following the conclusion of the senior divisions.
Due to this change, the USA Judo Annual Assembly and Board of Directors elections will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 24-25.
There will be a candidate forum on the evening of Sept. 24 and Directors elections will be held on Sept. 25. Details on these meetings and elections will be announced by June 1.
“This was a change that we had no choice but to make, we are thankful to the U.S. Olympic Training Center leadership for working with us to make this decision in a very short window of time,” said USA Judo President Dr. Ron Tripp (Norman, Okla.) “Our staff responded as soon as the World Junior Championships change of dates took place so as to inform our members as well as national judo federations throughout the world of this date change.”
