For Immediate Release March 24, 2008 Contact: Nicole Jomantas, 719.271.9937 (cell) Nicole.Jomantas@usajudo.us (Colorado Springs, Colo.)-More than 500 of the top junior and collegiate players in the United States will be competing at the USA Judo Youth and Scholastic National Championships, March 29-30 at the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, Wis. One of the largest tournaments for young athletes in the United States, the Youth and Scholastic Nationals will include players ranging from as young as 5-years-old through college seniors vying for National titles. Also at stake for athletes in the U-20 division who win medals will be valuable junior elite national ranking points that will help athletes qualify for the Junior World Championship Trials, to be held Aug. 31 in Spokane, Wash. Competition begins at 9 a.m. on March 29 with the Intermediate 1 (athletes born 1998-1999), Juvenile A (athletes born 1994-1995), Juvenile B (athletes born 1992-1993) and Collegiate Senior divisions. Rodriguez (Colorado Springs, Colo.) of this inaugural tournament."Obviously there is a great deal of interest in the new concept of the Youth Olympic Games in 2010 and this event kicks off USA Judo's efforts to prepare our athletes for 2012 and beyond. There is still an opportunity to register as athletes can register on-site as well, so I'm sure we will see many great competitors in Wisconsin."Although the athletes competing will be young, many of them have won senior national medals as well and will be in contention for berths on the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team.
