Coach Parnham Announces 2014 Rabobank Hockey World Cup Team
Yesterday the announcement regarding the composition of our 2014 Rabobank Hockey World Cup Team was announced by Coach Craig Parnham. Craig also caveated the announcement with the admonition that the several national team members not making the final roster were still major contributors. While they may not be on the roster, they are superb athletes and have a bright future going forward. Thanks to the entire Women’s National Team as we head for Holland in June.
An ultimate display of generosity
Last week we received a very generous contribution of $1,500 raised by 15-year-old Caroline Epstein from New Jersey to benefit the USA Field Hockey Go Girl and FUNdamental Field Hockey programs. Both programs are designed to introduce hockey to children 7-11 years of age (FUNdamental) and provide an opportunity for disadvantaged youth to experience hockey in 10 participating college hockey programs located throughout America. The effort by Caroline touched us so much that we wanted to tell you a little about her. Later this week we will have a news-release describing her and her efforts to help this sport grow. She, like many of you, has put her words into action and has accomplished something to benefit others. She is super!! Thank you, Caroline!
Cal Cup to happen this weekend
Cal Cup is a massive event entering its 43rd edition this upcoming weekend. Thousands of hockey athletes, coaches and umpires will find their way to Moorpark, Calif. to participate in the four day Memorial Day weekend event. For a first time in many years, Cal Cup will be a USA Field Hockey sanctioned event and a number of USAFH staff members will be on hand. We’re sending our thanks and appreciation to Cal Cup founder Tom Harris and his very capable and large Cal Cup organizing committee. They are among the best event producers in the nation. Here is to good weather and excellent competition in Moorpark.
Extending our appreciation to Nicky Hitchens
Since November 2011 Nicky Hitchens has been an integral part of the U.S. Women’s National Indoor Team as the squad’s manager. After several years of assisting with Team USA, Nicky is transitioning away from the program and focusing full-time on her associate head coach position at Drexel University where she’ll embark on her 11th season under Head Coach Denise Zelenak..
One of the standout moments in Nicky’s USA Field Hockey career came on March of 2013, when she was with Team USA and contributed the program’s first-ever victory over Argentina, 4-3, on the final day of the South American Tour. Thank you Nicky for your dedication to the indoor squad and best of luck at Masters World Cup in Holland this summer!
Ignite the Dream
Registration for our 2014 Olympic Youth Camps (OYC) is now open! This summer, over 30 Olympians and National Team athletes will hit the road to inspire boys and girls at the first ever OYC! Campers, ages 7-13, will have a chance to learn from the country’s best field hockey athletes at 15 select sites across the country. Sign up for a summer of fun and field hockey here!
Late Night with Seth Meyers New research suggests that people who are more ambitious will live longer. While people who are less ambitious will live longer with their parents.
Have a great week! See you in California at this weekend’s Cal Cup!!
