Registration Process for 2014 National Hockey Festival Announced
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – March 4, 2014 - USA Field Hockey announced today the registration process for the 2014 National Hockey Festival the largest field hockey event of its kind in the world. The 2014 Festival registration process will be the same as it was last year with the primary objective of making the National Hockey Festival accessible to all member athletes and clubs. The transparent procedure allowed all eligible member clubs the opportunity to register a team, while also recognizing larger clubs with more athletes and providing them with the opportunity to register multiple teams. This procedure has been generally well received in our hockey community and by member clubs. For 2014, USA Field Hockey will adopt the same procedure with some modifications.
All eligible member clubs can submit an application to register at least one team and up to four teams to the Festival. To be an eligible member club, the club must have a current club membership and have the following numbers of affiliated U19 members on April 7, 2014 at 12:00pm MST.
- To be eligible for 1 team, current member clubs must have at least 25 affiliated U19 members* by April 7, 2014 at 12:00pm MST.
- To be eligible for 2 teams, current member clubs must have at least 75 affiliated U19 members* by April 7, 2014 at 12:00pm MST.
- To be eligible for 3 teams, current member clubs must have at least 125 affiliated U19 members* by April 7, 2014 at 12:00pm MST.
- To be eligible for 4 teams, current member clubs must have at least 175 affiliated U19 members* by April 7, 2014 at 12:00pm MST.
- *Note: a USA Field Hockey U19 membership includes U14, U16 and U19 athletes.
The clubs with a higher number of member athletes may be allocated additional spots to ensure athletes within larger clubs are afforded the same opportunity to participate as athletes within smaller clubs.
On April 7, 2014, eligible clubs will be identified and ranked in “priority order” from most to least U19 affiliated members. The clubs that meet the eligibility requirements will be notified of the online registration window that will take place April 14-18, 2014. Online registration is not based on a first come, first serve basis.
During the April 14-18 registration window, clubs will have the opportunity to register up to four teams, depending on their number of affiliated members. Teams will be allotted one spot into Festival, based upon “priority order.” If there are remaining spaces available after all eligible clubs have one team enrolled, then a second spot will be given in priority to member clubs with the most number of athletes. The process will continue until all U19 and U16 division spots are filled.
After making breath-taking renovations to their grounds, the Empire Polo Club in Palm Springs, California will host the 2014 National Hockey Festival during the Thanksgiving Holiday. The Festival attracts over 7,000 visitors from the US, Canada, Europe and Caribbean. Not a stranger to the field hockey community, the Empire Polo Club is excited to once-again showcase athletes on their pristine Californian grass fields to the largest gathering of college field hockey coaches.
