USA Men's Over 50 team beats Wales to reach World Cup Quarterfinals

After recording the USA Masters first-ever victory with a win over Egypt, the USA Men's Over 50 went into a must-win game against Wales with the prize of securing a place in the quarterfinals.USA scored the first goal after flowing forward movement finished with Ian Tapsall rolling a through pass to Jeremy Roberts who found Ian Wagge on the penalty flick spot.  Ian buried the chance for a 1-0 lead. On the stroke of halftime, Andrew Dunning drove into the circle and was fouled, setting up an extended play corner.  Don Warner pushed out to stick-stopper Peter Jones and Richard Hayden drove the ball past the goalies outreached foot for a 2-0 halftime score. Wales struck back early in the second half and reduced the USA's lead to 2-1. Soon thereafter, Manzar Iqbal crossed the ball from the right and found Joost Douwes unmarked on the left side of the circle. Joost calmly slotted the ball away for a 3-1 lead.  Wales attacked hard, but the USA's defense held out, with strong tackling from all the backline and GK Warren Prestwich making some fine saves. This win left the USA with six points from their four group games and a spot in the quarterfinals against Germany. The USA will finish in the top 8 teams out of 14 competing in this age division.

USA had two umpires at the Masters World Cup and they were both assigned to prestige finals.  Rene' Zelkin got the Women's Over 40 while Swampy Marsh got the Men's Over 40. Congratulations and thanks to both umpires.
