USA Field Hockey Proudly Announces 2014 National Club Championship Teams

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – June 9, 2014 – Spanning 11 weekends from the beginning of March through the end of June, teams from all across the country gave their heart and soul at their 2014 Regional Club Championships (RCC). For 32 teams, the strife paid off and their ticket to the National Club Championship (NCC) awaits.

The National Club Championship presented by Harrow Sports is an ideal opportunity for clubs to compete against each other in a highly competitive atmosphere and coincides with USA Field Hockey’s mission of growing playing opportunities and the game of field hockey in the United States.

Beginning on July 10 with the Under-14 division, 16 teams will line up on the new turf at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa for the ultimate club competition. The Under-16 and Under-19 tournaments follow on July 13 and July 16 respectively.

For many, including Saints Field Hockey Head Coach Scotty Tyson, the NCC is where memories are made and passion for the game is abundant.

“The National Club Championships is one of my favorite tournaments to attend,” said Tyson. “Every team is hungry for the golden Harrow stick and you can tell that the girls are playing their hardest. Athletes come alive and coaches are put to the test. It’s a beautiful show of U14, U16 and U19 field hockey!”

Saints Field Hockey, along with Aim Field Hockey, Freedom HKY, North East Elite, WC Eagles and Xcalibur, have a team competing in each division of the tournament, a true testament to the club’s skilled athletes.

This year, 12 Under-16 and 12 Under-19 teams qualified for the NCC by finishing in the top two places at their region’s club championship. An additional four teams in each division qualified for the NCC by placing third at their RCC and being top-ranked in the USA Field Hockey National Club Rankings. Under-14 teams were invited based on results of the 2012 and 2013 Disney Jr. Classic, formerly the Disney Jr. Showcase, National Club Championship and the National Hockey Festival.
