Richmond, Va. – The second weekend of the 2014 National Indoor Tournament, presented by YOLO Sportswear, kicks off this afternoon at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in Richmond, Va. The Under-19 Girls Division is set to show off their skills on the nation’s largest indoor stage during the course of the next three days. Approximately 1,200 athletes and families have ventured to the greater Richmond area for the tournament, boosting the local economy.
“The USA Field Hockey National Indoor Tournament is a wonderful sporting event and we are thrilled that our exhibit hall will be filled once again with field hockey courts this weekend,” said Michael Meyers, General Manager of the Greater Richmond Convention Center for the private management firm, Global Spectrum. “Sports Tourism has been on the rise in recent years and the USA Field Hockey National Indoor Tournament is a perfect example of how sporting events benefit the Richmond Region. The competition is high caliber yet fun to watch. I would encourage anyone who has the opportunity to come down to take a look and enjoy the games.”
Over the last few months, 120 club teams have qualified to compete in the tournament through National Indoor Tournament Qualifiers around the country. The standout clubs will battle it out on eight courts to be named a 2014 National Indoor Tournament champion.
