Womens Youth Olympic Games Squad preps for Uruguay

Feb. 10, 2014, 6:18 p.m. (ET)

Women's Youth Olympic Squad Athlete Sophia Miller (Medford, NJ) gives USA Field Hockey fans an inside look at the 2014 YOG Qualifier in Uruguay.

Our travels began when we left the Cork Factory Hotel in Lancaster, Pa. after two days of intense, but fun training at Spooky Nook Sports. We were also leaving the icy conditions of Pennsylvania to the sunny, tropical climate of Montevideo, Uruguay. Anyone could have spotted us in our new matching Asics apparel walking around the Philadelphia Airport. Following our flights to Miami, then to Montevideo, two friendly girls who greeted us at the airport helped us navigate the roads of the city. After settling into our traditional hotel and eating our first meal, we set out to the field for our first scrimmage. The adjustment to the humidity and sand-based turf was tough, but by the end of the game we pulled out with a 5-1 win over team Uruguay. We wrapped up the day with a delicious dinner and dessert. Can't wait to put on that USA skirt! GO USA!
