Mens National Team Athletes to contend against University of British Columbia
Men’s National Team athletes have scheduled matches against the University of British Columbia (UBC) for U.S. domestically-based players to increase their exposure to competition, supplementing the training within the Centralized Training Program and Remote training locations within the USA. The matches will take place at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Cali. from February 17 – 21.
This development squad is made up of veteran national team players such as Ian Scally (Thousand Oaks, CA), Kevin Barber (Camarillo, CA) and young hopefuls such as Austin Groeneveld (Jenkintown, PA), Tom McCarthy (East Windsor, CT) and Ajaypal Singh (Hayward, CA).
“We are excited for the matches against UBC which will be a great test for this group,” said Men’s National Head Coach Chris Clements.
This competitive environment with a development squad provides a stepping stone towards full international matches with the senior team in the future. Senior players will share their expertise and knowledge to develop the younger players providing guidance on and off the field. This process is critical to player development as in the heat of battle at major tournaments is not the place to transition an up and coming player.
