Parnham announces Champions Challenge roster

Team USA looks to showcase strong presence on international stage

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – April 14, 2014 - U.S. Women’s National Team head coach, Craig Parnham, has announced the 18-player roster that will compete at the 2014 Champions Challenge in Glasgow, Scotland April 27-May 4. The U.S. squad comprised of experienced and skilled athletes is eager to challenge the international competition.

"We are looking forward to the first competitive matches of the year,” said U.S. Women's National Team Head Coach Craig Parnham. "The players have worked hard over the past months and are eager to get started in Scotland."

Champions Challenge is the final step of preparation for the squad on the road to the 2014 Rabobank Hockey World Cup in The Hague, Netherlands. Most recently, Team USA took on Canada in a four game test series at the new Home of Hockey, Spooky Nook Sports, in Lancaster, Pa. The squad swept Canada 4-0 in the series.

The U.S. is currently ranked 10th in the world, and is one of the higher ranked teams competing in the 2014 Champions Challenge. Team USA will look to take on Korea, who currently sits 8th in world rankings.

In Champions Challenges of 2011 and 2012, Team USA fell to Japan and Australia, respectively, in the final games to take home silver. More recently, the U.S. also took silver at the 2013 Pan Am Cup after a tightly contested loss to Argentina in the final.

Champions Challenge also marks the first tournament that new U.S. Women’s Assistant Coach, Janneke Schopman, will be adding her extensive experience to the team. Schopman is a two-time Olympic field hockey medalist and a Hockey World Cup medalist for the Dutch National Team.
