Sept. 03, 2013, 11:39 a.m. (ET)

COLORADO SPRINGS, Co – September 3, 2013 - USA Field Hockey announced last week the first ever Under-12 Co-Ed division which will be held at the 2014 National Indoor Tournament at Nook Sports, the new Home of Hockey, on February 21-23 in conjunction with the Under-14 tournament. In previous years, the Under-14 and Under-16 divisions competed over the same weekend. As a separate event in 2014, the Under-12 and Under-14 divisions will reside together at the Nook.

This extension aligns with USA Field Hockey's mission to grow the game by offering more exposure to the competitive and fun atmosphere of National Events and was a recommendation coming out of the USA Field Hockey Board of Directors meeting earlier this month.

"We are extremely excited to announce an Indoor competition for U-12 hockey players at the Nook,” said Liz Tchou, Sport Development Senior Manager, "To host a tournament for this age group held in this world-class facility is going to be truly special. These kids are going to be exposed to the sport in a wonderful environment filled with competition, development, teamwork and most importantly- fun."

USA Field Hockey announced Nook Sports the Home of Hockey and Home of the U.S. Women’s National Team in January. Nook Sports located in Lancaster, Pa. is the country’s largest indoor sports complex that will host both international and USA Field Hockey sanctioned events beginning in 2014. The venue features over 700,000 square feet of indoor space with state-of-the-art sport court for indoor hockey as well as a multitude of other indoor sports and sporting events.

The 2014 National Indoor Tournament presented by Yolo Sportswear will kick-off February 21-23 at Nook Sports with the Under-12 and Under-14 divisions. Registration for the Under-12 National Indoor Tournament will take place September 11-22. USA Field Hockey member clubs are invited to apply for up to five teams per club. A lottery on September 25 will determine the 2014 participants.

Full application information is available on usafieldhockey.com. USA Field Hockey’s ‘Stay to Play’ policy will be in place for the Under-12 and Under-14 National Indoor Tournament and will be provided by Nook Sports. Teams who are successful in their application to participate in the Under-12 and Under-14 National Indoor Tournament will be required to book housing accommodations through USA Field Hockey’s Stay to Play partner.

The National Indoor Tournament, held annually in late February and early March, pulls together standout indoor clubs and competitors from across the nation for the opportunity to compete on the national stage and be crowned an indoor national champion.
