The Postponement of the All Boys Indoor Tournament Provides Promise of International Competition

Oct. 24, 2013, 6:15 p.m. (ET)

The intention of hosting the first All Boys Indoor Field Hockey Tournament was to provide an incentive for boys to play field hockey. By creating an event where boys from all over the United States could come together to play, Dita Field Hockey North America had hoped to spark interest and increase visibility for the boys and men who enjoy field hockey.

In an effort to stir interest, we opened the tournament to other hockey playing nations, notably Canada and South Africa, who had planned to each send several teams. Unfortunately the total number of U.S. who boys registered did not reach critical mass sufficient to host a worthwhile indoor tournament.  Sadly, we are informing our friends in Canada and South Africa that the event will be postponed until January 2015.

Although Dita is postponing this year’s All Boys Tournament, the opportunity to play field hockey during that weekend is still available. Dita is donating funds to have a smaller local indoor event on the same weekend, December 14-15. Both boys teams and girls teams are invited to participate and  there will be more games for each team and will have a small registration fee just to cover the smaller facility.  If any of your boys still want to come out just let me know.  I expect it will be mostly local players and a few die-hards coming from the East coast. Please contact us for further details at: ditausa@mindspring.com

Our enthusiasm for boys’ field hockey competition has not dipped and we have already begun mapping out details for our January 2015 event. The board requests groups add it to their calendar and be prepared for some great international competition.

The new event details are as follows:

ALL-BOYS INTERNATIONAL INDOOR HOCKEY TOURNAMENT
This Dita-sponsored event will be held at the end of January.  A cap of eight teams in each of the following age divisions will be invited: Under 12, U 14, U 16, and U 18. Once the first three slots in each division are filled by U.S. players, we will accept applications from Canadian, Mexican, South African, Dutch, Australian, and Chilean boys teams. Age divisions without a minimum three U.S. teams will be eliminated.

We are also willing to accept bids for hosting the tournament at other locations within the U.S., should interest and large numbers of players justify the move from the venue of the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center facility. Keep posted to USA Field Hockey for more updates.

We look forward to growing the game together for our boys and men around the world and the ones located right in our very backyards.

Happy hockey,

Sandy Kinnee, CEO
Dita Field Hockey North America
