USA Field Hockey Weekly Report
It is now confirmed that our Women’s National Team has qualified for the 2014 World Cup, in The Hague, Netherlands. The team will participate among the top 12 squads in global hockey and we are thrilled. The U.S. had a great series in Mendoza, Argentina during the Pan American Cup and fought their way into the championship round against the host team. Although Argentina left the pitch with a 1-0 victory, it was a back-and-forth battle until the very last second of play. I am fully convinced that this team, coaching staff and its superb support group can play and beat the best in the world. The best is yet to come and we are very enthused about the team’s progress at Pan American Cup series.

USA Field Hockey will be kicking off the 4th annual “Tee It Up For Futures” Golf Tournament during the week of Thanksgiving while at the National Hockey Festival in South Florida. The “Tee It Up for Futures” Golf Tournament is one of the many ways that USA Field Hockey continues to raise money to ensure growth across the nation by providing opportunities to prospective athletes in our Futures program that may not be able to participate on their own. Click here to join us for a round of golf at the beautiful Breakers West Country Club followed by lunch and awards.
USA Field Hockey is pleased to announce that Men's National Coach, Chris Clements will be traveling to Virginia Beach, Va. and Miami / Key Biscayne Fla., to run athlete and coaching clinics to simply promote the sport of field hockey for boys and men. We have identified Virginia Beach and Miami / Key Biscayne as two areas we see as necessary to develop the game from the base up to High Performance over the next several years. For more information please send a message to email@example.com
U12/U14 NITs at The Nook It is truly exciting for us to present a new premium event to the 110 teams competing in this new tournament housed in Lancaster, Pa’s The Nook. This is a first time ever event for these two age groups and, it is our first official event at The Nook. We are striving to get the hotel information out to the teams this week. The hotel reservation process will be administered by The Nook personnel.
As a matter of course, we will be developing more and more activities for people in the 6-13 age group as we enter into 2014. One constant refrain I have heard since being in this position is the need to develop more opportunities in many different ways for kids so they have a chance to develop technically at a younger age. This seems to have been a long time Achilles heel for us in the USA and we are taking steps to help remedy that issue.
Massive congratulations go to Amy Hassick (USA) on receiving her Golden Whistle when she umpired the JAP v CHN Semi-Final at the Women's Asia Cup. Amy is the second American woman and 6th in the Pan American Field Hockey Federation to make it in this exclusive club. We're so proud of you!
Late show with David Letterman: “Today's the annual grand opening of the U.N. We have leaders from all over the world, and when they come here they have diplomatic immunity. They can do whatever they want, break any kind of laws. I saw a dictator today walking up Broadway carrying a 16-ounce soda.”
Have a great week!
