USA Field Hockey Weekly-Week of June 17, 2013
Futures This is the big week where dreams come true for many young athletes about to embark in intense competition at USA Field Hockey’s National Futures Championship, Futures Elite Championship and U21 National Championship. All these prestigious events, as well as the Junior National Camp are supported by Presenting Sponsor Harrow Sports. Our good friends at Harrow share our vision to grow the game and we are extremely grateful for their wonderful support. These events showcase the best the sport has to offer in 2013 as the women participating have all earned their respective ways there. The event will also feature selectors, analyzing each athlete for further participation in our Olympic Development pipeline, as well as dozens of college coaches who will be on hand to view talented young athletes, and look toward the potential of collegiate athletic careers with their teams. It is an exciting, nerve-wracking, and a high stress time for both athletes and parents. It is also a huge labor of love that has been put together by USA Field Hockey staff member Caitie Tornes, assisted by Kaitlin Piosa, and has taken literally hundreds of hours of preparation. So, now as the hour of competition is about here, it is time to offer from all of us at USA Field Hockey our very best wishes to the athletes as they demonstrate their talents to the Virginia Beach audience.
Our Women’s National Team flew to London on Saturday and are now preparing to take on the challenge of the World League Semi-Final. We will be facing China, Italy and Argentina in the pool stage, with the key match being the quarterfinal on Thursday, June 27. This is the very top level of hockey and the competition will be intense. Head Coach Craig Parnham, has selected a talented and committed team, that will proudly represent USA and we wish them all the best. All matches will be streamed live on the International Hockey Federation’s YouTube channel and a link to the live coverage is available on usafieldhockey.com.
Late Night with Jimmy Fallon“Over the weekend, a woman interrupted the finale of “Britain's Got Talent” and actually started throwing eggs at Simon Cowell — at which point she won “Britain's Got Talent.”
