Executive Director Weekly Report
USA Field Hockey Weekly Report-Week of June 10, 2013
In this report, we are soliciting for volunteer roles within the organization for many of you to consider. All of these positions are quite important to each area of concern. Thank you for your consideration of these opportunities.
The USA Field Hockey Ethics Committee has had created for it an independent sub-committee to function as an advisory group for the reporting and adjudication of the USA Field Hockey Safe Sport program, as well as to serve as a review source of field hockey sport safety education for the entire hockey community. The USA Field Hockey Nominating Committee is accepting applications to fill the 3-5 open positions on the Safe Sport Sub-Committee. The Safe Sport Sub-Committee will be responsible to assist in the adjudication of claims made by members that orient around safe environments for athletes. Such abuses as sexual molestation, sexual abuse, bullying, and other elements that are adverse to safe environments will be considered. The successful candidates will serve a two-year term beginning on August 1, 2013.
Each member shall;
1. Have experience and background in law enforcement, prosecution, victim advocacy or knowledge in the area of misconduct in sport, including sexual and physical abuse;
2. Have the highest personal values, judgment, and professional integrity;
Interested volunteer applicants are encouraged to send their resume and a brief letter indicating their interest in being a candidate for this position to Alva Serrette, chairperson of the USA Field Hockey Nominating Committee. The USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame honors players, coaches, officials and volunteers who have enhanced the sport through exceptional achievements. We are pleased to announce that we intend to conduct our next Hall of Fame induction in 2014. We are very excited to bring back this prestigious event ten years on from our last induction that took place in 2004. To date, USA Field Hockey has inducted nearly 40 inductees to accept this honor and we look forward to adding more to this coveted group.
We are establishing a USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame Committee and we are seeking candidates to fulfill these roles. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Attend conference calls and meetings to establish the Hall of Fame policies.
- Assist with the conduction of nominations, ballots and voting for our next class of inductees
- Work with USA Field Hockey staff to implement the production of the event including event management, marketing, advertising, ticket sales, etc.
Interested candidates should send their contact information; an outline of their involvement with field hockey, and include a paragraph about why they would like to be a part of this prestigious event. Grow the Game contest winners Congratulations to Rye Field Hockey Club on winning our Grow the Game contest with their video submission of developing post-collegiate play in New York City. Rye Field Hockey intends to use the $1K at a USA Field Hockey Grow the Game sponsor to support the development of its first junior indoor field hockey program for boys. We also owe a big thank you to everyone who participated in the contest. Your efforts are tremendous. Keep up the great work!
The stage is set for USA Field Hockey's National Club Championship Over the weekend, the final Regional Club Championships was played and the 16 teams that will compete in the U-14, U-16 and U-19 divisions at this year’s National Club Championship are now confirmed. Congratulations to all and best of luck next month as you compete for the championship title. For a breakdown on the teams attending and how they qualified, visit usafieldhockey.com.
Next week I am off to Rotterdam, The Netherlands for the first FIH World League Semi-Final and to participate in a CEOs’ meeting with many of the FIH’s member national associations The get together with the CEOs should be interesting and informative. Included in the agenda are several important topics and they include:
- Olympic program review and strategy
- The event assignment process
- Hockey 5s
- World Cup update
- Rio 2016 update
- And, the FIH digital strategy.
It will be an informative meeting and I will provide information from it as appropriate upon my return.
Late Night with Jimmy Fallon: “There are reports that Major League Baseball is planning to suspend 20 players, including A-Rod, for using performance-enhancing drugs. Which raises a lot of questions, like, “Don't you have to be playing to be suspended from playing?”
