WC Eagles Secure Second First Place Finish at National Club Championship
Virginia Beach, Va.’s torrential downpour and lightning couldn’t stifle the raging storm of play WC Eagles’ Under-16 (Spring City, Pa.) team brought to the 2013 National Club Championship. By beating PA Mavericks FH Club (Middleton, Pa.) 6-0 the Eagles left the field victorious yet again after the club’s Under-14 team also won its division. The Eagles are coached by Jun Kentwell while the PA Mavericks FH are coached by Chelton Hunter.
“The play has been a smooth transition from U-14 to U-16, further upping the ante of competition and skill level,” said Karen Collin USA Field Hockey Event Logistics Director. “This year’s Under-16 athletes persevered through inclement weather throughout the tournament to truly elevate the level of play.”
In the bronze medal game, Jersey Intensity Field Hockey (Monmouth Beach, NJ) triumphed 2-1 over Aim Field Hockey (Valley Park, MO). The top goal scorers in the tournament were Amelia Iacobucci (WC Eagles) with 12 goals, Erin Shanahan (The Gaels) with 12 goals, and Erin Matson (WC Eagles) with eight goals.
Sixteen of the best clubs from across the USA competed in four pools of four, over three days of play competed in the National Club Championship presented by Harrow Sports, at USA Field Hockey’s National Training Center in Virginia Beach, VA, the 2014 tournament will be played at the new Home of Hockey, in Lancaster, Pa.
