USA Field Hockey Weekly-Week of July 8, 2013
USA Field Hockey’s National Club Championships Begin this Week at Virginia Beach. USA Field Hockey’s National Club Championships for U14s begins tomorrow and continues through Friday. On Saturday, we will see U16s enter the fray through next Monday. Wrapping up the tournament will be U19s beginning a week from today through Thursday the 18th. This is an incredible duration of time, and our staff will be on hand throughout all the timeframes. Included in our staff contingent will be Karen Collins, Emily Thomas, Kaitlan Mitchell, Simon Hoskins and Steve Horgan. This is a huge investment in time to be away from families, and to each of those going and others who serve in volunteer or contractor positions we are very grateful. After the club championships we still have many upcoming events on the calendar. Each one is designed to be premium and they include the Disney Junior Field Hockey Showcase, the AAU Junior Olympics, and the wrap-up will be the USA Field Hockey National Hockey Festival in Palm Beach, Florida beginning on the Thanksgiving holiday on November 28th.
USA Field Hockey Works Alongside the US State Department and various Universities in a Hockey Outreach Program with Pakistan. Last year, a strong relationship formed between USA Field Hockey, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Harrow Sports. Donna Duffy, Program Director of the Program for the Advancement of Girls and Women in Sport and Physical Activity, and graduate student, Erin Reifsteck were instrumental in starting FUNdamental Field Hockey in their area.
This past month, the partnership continued with Harrow Sports providing brand new sticks and balls to Pakistani female athletes who were on the UNC-Greensboro campus as part of a program sponsored in partnership with the US State Department and the University of Tennessee's Center for Sport, Peace, and Society. Wake Forest University also hosted the group of field hockey players from Pakistan at Kentner Stadium. The goal was to help young girls develop their potential through sports diplomacy. By using sports to empower girls across the world and encourage education with the slogan "strong women, better world."
All around, a positive relationship which has turned into more hockey!

We have not received word regarding the possible streaming of matches, but if we do we will advise in a subsequent Weekly. This is just an excellent opportunity to play at the international elite level for older athletes.
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno: A 97-year-old man from New York who just received his high school diploma. Turns out there’s a problem. Apparently he’s only reading at a 95-year-old level.
Have a great week!
