2013 National Club Championship Athletes Crave a Golden Finish
Some lean toward silver, others favor pearls but when it comes down to the 2013 National Club Championship competitors crave gold.
We’re not talking about traditional medals or trophies but a Harrow Sports field hockey stick dipped from head to toe in a polished shine of gold perfection. It’s enough to make Constance Applebee drop her jaw in awe.
Sixteen elite clubs for each Under-14, Under-16 and Under-19 division have been selected from all over the nation to compete in Virginia Beach, Va. at the National Club Championship presented by Harrow Sports, July 10-18. Each division will compete for three long days where top colleges will be in attendance to recruit the best players in the country to play for the collegiate programs.
“NCC is one of our most anticipated events of the year and rightfully so with the enormous amounts of talent that will be pouring into Virginia Beach over the next several days,” said Emily Thomas Membership and Events Coordinator at USA Field Hockey. “We’re expecting close matches and great competition throughout the entire tournament.”
The selection process for the event began at the Regional Club Championships which identified the best club teams in each region of the country to compete at the premier national tournament. WC Eagles will look to defend their titles of U-14 and U-19 National Club Champions, while back-to-back National Champions in the U-16 division, Spirit of USA, will look to top the WC Eagles in the U-19 division and be crowned a National Champion for a third consecutive year. With Spirit of USA not a contender in the U-16 division, the title is up for grabs.
The National Club Championship inaugurated in 2011 and gives clubs the unique opportunity to earn ultimate bragging rights and the chance to turn the spotlight on their hometown. And in turn, this championship will once again be highly contested.
