COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The 2013 National Indoor Tournament in Richmond, Va., March 1-3, will feature a boys and mens division. Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to register. Teams will be determined based on age and experience. Registration will remain open until February 22, 2013.
''I am very excited for the boys to have this opportunity to play and compete at the National Indoor Tournament,” said Chris Clements, U.S. Men’s National Team Head Coach. “The number of opportunities for boys is on the rise along with exposure of the game through the FUNdamental Field Hockey program, 'Calling all Boys' clinics and a number of clubs who are now welcoming boys to their teams. We hope to increase these opportunities over time and I am excited for boys to have the opportunity to play.''
“Indoor field hockey is increasing in popularity and personally, I have some great memories representing the United States at two Indoor World Cups, playing against the best players in the world,” said Shawn Hindy, retired Men’s National Team Member. “This event will hopefully inspire these boys to one day represent the United States on the international stage. I am looking forward to helping in any way to make it a fun and worthwhile competition.”
“I think by showcasing boys at the National Indoor Tournament, we are starting to spread the word of men's field hockey in the U.S.,” said Cord Chipman, Under-21 registered participant in the 2013 National Indoor Tournament. “As a player I appreciate having a venue where I can play against other male field hockey players. I believe that by USA Field Hockey continuing to showcase the boys at the National Indoor Tournament and other national hockey tournaments, men's hockey in the U.S. will continue to see a rapid growth.”
