COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – February 12, 2013 - USA Field Hockey today announced the qualification process for the 2013 National Club Championship. The National Club Championship, presented by Harrow Sports, will be held at the National Training Center in Virginia Beach, Va., July 10-18. USA Field Hockey has also announced the Under-14 entry process for the 2013 National Club Championship.
The National Club Championship inaugurated in 2011 and consists of the top 16 club teams in the country. In 2012, Regional Club Championships were put in place to identify and ensure the best club teams from regions throughout the country are vying for the championship title.
One qualification spot will be awarded to Regional Club Championships with four or less club teams participating and two qualification sports will be awarded to Regional Club Championships with 5-16 club teams participating. The remaining spots will be allocated, in order, to the regional tournament with the most number of club teams participating.
Clubs must compete in the region they are registered in with USA Field Hockey. Regional Club Championship and National Club Championship rosters must stay the same after qualification.
The Under-14 National Club Championship invites the top four clubs from the 2012 Championship event, WC Eagles, Northeast Elite, Spirit of USA and Oranje-Gottaloveit!, back to compete in Virginia Beach, Va. All clubs can register for the remaining 12 places in the Under-14 National Club Championship. USA Field Hockey will award one spot per region based on the number of Under-14 affiliated athletes (members of USA Field Hockey aged 14 and under on January 1, 2013). Clubs may submit their interest by completing an application and emailing it to firstname.lastname@example.org by end of business day on March 1, 2013.
If a club is awarded at spot at the National Club Championship and withdraws from the tournament, the club forfeits the eligibility to enter a 2014 Regional Club Championship, therefore forfeiting the eligibility to participate in the 2014 National Club Championship.
