USA Field Hockey announces Men’s Over-50 Squad for European Masters Open
The roster features 10 members from the 2012 Over-45 U.S. Men's Masters World Cup Team
USA Field Hockey today announced the Men’s Over-50 squad that will represent the U.S. at the European Masters Open, August 10-18 at the Lisnagarvey Hockey Club in Northern Ireland. The tournament is being organized as an open event to allow non-European nations to participate. Currently ten countries are planning to compete in the Over-40, Over-45, Over-50 and Over-55 age groups, including England, Scotland, Spain, The Netherlands, South Africa, Italy and hosts Ireland.
The following athletes have been named to the 18-man travel roster for the European Masters Open: Mike Coleman (Corona, Cali.), Phil Danaher (Tatamy, Pa.), Andrew Dunning (Retford, UK), Neville Gardner (Bethlehem, Pa.), Simon Gray (Sacramento, Cali.), Richard Hayden (Ashburn, Va.), Dieter Hillert (Encinitas, Cali.), Peter Jones (Stamford, Conn.), John Michalak (Camarillo, Cali.), Steve Pany (Schnecksville, Pa.), Warren Prestwich (Baltimore, Md.), Curtis Sherk (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), Brian Spencer (Los Angeles, Cali.), Morgan Stebbins (Garrison, N.Y.), John Twaalfhoven (Netherlands), Ian Wagge (Phoenix, Ariz.), Don Warner (Henrico, Va.), Amjad Zia (Nottingham, UK)
Ten members named to the European Masters Open roster also represented the U.S. at the International Hockey Federation’s inaugural Masters World Cup in Great Britain last summer.
The team will be coached by Peter Jones, head coach of the Men’s O-45 Masters World Cup Team and former head coach of the U.S. Men’s National Indoor Team. Todd Koch will be the manager on tour for the team.
