Womens National Championship logo revealed and schedule announced

April 22, 2013, 12:34 p.m. (ET)

It’s a checkered flag marking years of extended weight-room sessions and extra off-hour practices - a finish line for most and a grand starting point for a lucky few.

The Women’s National Championship (WNC) will be held May 23-29 at Old Dominion University where top athletes from across the country will be competing for a spot on the U.S. Women’s National Team roster. U.S. head coach Craig Parnham will be evaluating the matches and selecting outstanding athletes from the pool of participants to represent Team USA on the international stage.

As the host site of the Women’s National Championship and of other prestigious events including the 2012 and 2013 NCAA field hockey championship, Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. will entertain hockey enthusiasts by bolstering the highest level of competition in the nation.

In anticipation of the premier domestic national championship event, tournament details have been finalized. This year six teams will feature athletes from across the United States vying for a coveted spot on the Team USA roster. Competition will begin on Thursday, May 23 and conclude with finals on Wednesday, May 29. Athletes invited to compete at the 2013 Women’s National Championship will be announced mid-May.

As well, the official event logo has been developed and revealed. A select group will be sporting the decal – a design that will be worn by those who have earned it and aspire to represent Team USA.

All matches will be played at ODU Sports Complex, 4251 Powhatan Avenue, Norfolk, Va. and admission is free and open to the public.

The Women’s National Championship traditionally serves as the only open selection opportunity to the National and Development Squads.
