USA Field Hockey’s youth development program, FUNdamental Field Hockey, has surpassed 170 registered programs.
"It is a remarkable achievement to have this number of programs committed to growing our sport after only four and a half months of the initiative in action," said Youth Development Manager Liz Tchou.
Fundamental Field Hockey was created in collaboration with the Youth Development Task Force, and could not be possible without the support of its partners, Harrow Sports, Partnership for a Healthier America, and the U.S. Men’s Field Hockey Foundation. However, the true champions of Fundamental Field Hockey are the volunteers, coaches, and educators at each of the 170 locations who make the program possible.
Fundamental Field Hockey is a youth development initiative to expose the sport to thousands of children, ages 7-11, nationwide by providing free equipment and emphasizing fun physical activity. The program sends field hockey equipment, provided by Harrow Sports, and a full curriculum to elementary schools and youth organizations, including YMCAs, Boys and Girls Clubs, and Parks and Recs. The Youth Development Team then pairs the host with a local USA Field Hockey member club to provide support and sustainability.
USA Field Hockey is strongly committed to growing the sport at each our programs. In Colorado, Club Lewy owner and former U.S. Men’s National Team Member, Paul Lewis, has encouraged six local elementary schools to allow the program in their physical education classes and after school programs.
"The goal for the program is to eventually progress to support a High Performance site here, for both boys and girls. The Fundamental Field Hockey program has supplied us with sticks and balls which makes it easier to eventually get field hockey into more area high schools," said Lewis.Entire school districts and clusters of elementary schools across the country have teamed up to launch the program in physical education classes or after school programs. Hosmor Elementary School and Lowell Elementary School are located 20 minutes outside of Boston, in Watertown, Mass. The two schools each have communities that have rallied around the sport and regularly work together to enhance the programs.
USA Field Hockey isn't stopping here! They plan to continue to grow the program, launching a total of 250 programs in the first year. For more information on bringing Fundamental Field Hockey to your area, please email email@example.com or visit the Youth section of www.usafieldhockey.com.
