GUADALAJARA - The U.S. Junior Women's National Team automatically qualified for the 7th Junior World Cup by defeating Chile this evening, 2-1, at the Pan American Junior Championship in Guadalajara, Mexico.
"I am absolutely delighted with the result," said Head Coach Nick Conway. "This group of players has committed a lot to prepare to be here, missing the most challenging time of year from their collegiate programs. They've worn the jersey with pride, and I am thrilled to pieces with the success that these players have earned this tournament and for all the families and friends who traveled to Guadalajara and followed from home. We've achieved what we came for and for that we will go home delighted."
Nikki Parsley (Milford, DE) scored both of the goals for the U.S. Parsley's first goal put the U.S. up 1-0 over Chile, but minutes before halftime Chile evened the match at 1-1.
Parsley tallied a second goal late in the second half and the U.S. defense held off six Chilean penalty corners in the final minutes of play to secure the win and book their ticket to Junior World Cup next year.
"We are really excited that our win is going to take us to the Junior World Cup," said Parsley. "We want to take this momentum with us as we move forward."
