USA Field Hockey Weekly Report-Week of October 22, 2012

Boys Clinics a big success The boys' clinics that started on the west coast on October 13th, wrapped up this past weekend in Boston, Mass and they were a huge success. The four, 2-hour clinics inspired boys across the country and is something Men's National Team  Head Coach Chris Clements hopes to continue in the future. "We look forward to building the game for boys and men across the country," said Clements. "It is not only about getting players to compete at the National level, but also about boys being able to play the sport they love on a recreational level." Keep on eye out on usafieldhockey.com for regular updates and playing opportunities for boys.
USA Field Hockey's YouTube Channel  now features a "Midseason Update" of the 2012 National Rules Briefing. Steve Horgan, USA Field Hockey's umpiring director and the NCAA's rules interpreter, presents valuable information for players, coaches, fans, and umpires on the following topics: green carding goalkeepers, one action to start a free hit, 'own goal' scenarios, 5 meter exclusion zone (at start of free hit and end of aerials), decisions at the end of time, illegal hits into the air, and respecting the game (team area). You can check it out along with other USA Field Hockey videos here.

Festival is coming up quick and we will have a special extra event. FUNdamental Field Hockey, USA Field Hockey’s new developmental program, will have a field dedicated to pick-up games for kids, both boys and girls, from 7 to 11 years of age. USA Field Hockey’s new venue for 2012 and 2013 will be at the International Polo Club at Wellington in Palm Beach County, Florida. A total of 26 fields will be used. The schedule, rules, and a map of the fields can be found on the USA Field Hockey website. The USA Field Hockey Annual General Membership meeting is scheduled to take place Friday evening, November 23, and will be held at the Pavilion at the International Polo Club (a restaurant) and will start at 4:45 PM ET.

Jimmy Kimmel Live!: One in seven people worldwide use a smart phone. Hopefully, one day we will never have to look up and into another person's eyes ever again.

Have a great week!
