Schedule announced for Men's World League Round 1 - Chula Vista
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The dates have been set and the schedule is now finalized for the Men’s World League Round 1 competition in Chula Vista, Cali. The U.S. will host one of nine Men’s World League Round 1 tournaments at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Cali., November 16-18.
“We are thrilled to be given the opportunity to host Round 1 of the Men’s FIH World League event in Chula Vista,” said Steve Locke, Executive Director, USA Field Hockey. “The U.S. Men’s Squad is eager to make their debut in the World League on home their turf. We are committed to hosting a premier, world class event and look forward to showcasing international hockey in Southern California in November.”
On August 10, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) introduced the Hockey World League, a four round event running from August 2012 through February 2014, that will be used to decide which teams will qualify alongside Continental Champions and Hosts for future Olympic Games and FIH World Cups.
Round 1 of the World League is open to all National Teams ranked No. 17 and below in the world. Participating teams will gain valuable world ranking points. The U.S. will host the Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Mexico for three days of exciting, international hockey. The team topping the table will qualify to participate in Round 2 of the World League, which is scheduled to be played in the first half of 2013.

12:30 p.m. Mexico vs Guatemala
11:00 a.m. Dominican Republic vs Guatemala
1:30 p.m. Mexico vs USA
11:00 a.m. USA vs Guatemala
1:30 p.m. Dominican Republic vs Mexico
“Hosting an FIH event is a huge honor,” said U.S. Men’s National Team Head Coach Chris Clements. “The World League is an exciting new competition and we are hopeful of having a successful showing on our home turf. We are confident in our programs path not only for success in November but well into the future. Our sights set on participating in Round 2 of the World League next year.”
