Last Monday, May 9th, the USA Field Hockey Judicial Committee met to hear the complaint made by a USA Field Hockey member concerning the Board of Directors' election held on February 13, 2011. The complaint represented that the election for at-large candidates was not conducted according to USA Field Hockey Bylaws. Additionally, the complaint alleged that the Board did not follow the spirit of USA Field Hockey Bylaws by nominating an individual from the floor, who was not on the original slate of candidates as submitted by the USA Field Hockey Nomination Committee.
The complainant prevailed in the case and the election of the three at-large Board members was invalidated. The Nominating Committee will nominate candidates for the three at-large Board seats and a new election will take place for the open seats. Further information regarding the nominating process and the date of the new Board election will be announced in the near future.
“This process demonstrates the effective checks and balances within the organization that ensure proper governance,” said Steve Locke, Executive Director. “Our focus as an organization remains to provide valued programs and services to all constituents that continue to develop the game. We look forward to working with the newly elected Board members to achieve this goal.”
