COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. – Patrick Harris (Moorpark, CA), a member of the Men’s National Team, was recently recognized as player of the week in the Rabo Hoofdklasse League in the Netherlands. Harris is the only player from the United States participating in the Hoofdklasse League, the highest division of Dutch hockey.

“This is a fantastic personal achievement for Pat, who has committed significant time and energy towards performing at the highest level in the Hoofdklasse competition,” said Nick Conway, Head Coach of the USA Men’s National Team.

This is Harris’s second season with Laren, a team competing in the Hoofdklasse League. Harris made the Netherlands his more permanent place of residence two years ago with the intent of advancing his game at the international level. When asked about being recognized as player of the week in the league, his response was, “I was a bit surprised to be honest. I am proud of the achievement and believe it is a huge step in the right direction for myself and the men’s game in the USA.

“The Rabo Hoofdklasse league for men has more than sixty foreigners playing alongside the very best in Holland, all of whom are outstanding in their own right,” said Terry Walsh, USA Field Hockey Technical Director.  “This league is recognized in hockey circles as the strongest domestic competition in the world. For Pat, to be recognized is an enormous accolade to him personally and a significant reflection on USA Field Hockey.”

Harris has been a member of the USA Men’s National Team since 2000 and prior to that was a member of the Men’s Junior National Team. Harris has played in seventy-five international matches with the Men’s National Team, displaying his longevity and commitment to the program.

Laren is currently ranked sixth in standings, below Bloemendaal and Amsterdam, who are ranked first and second in the league. Laren’s next match is Sunday, May 8th at 2:45 local time against HDM. Harris will travel back to the United States in a couple weeks to compete at the 2011 California Cup at Moorpark College.
