U-19 National Team Open Series Against Canada

March 16, 2011, 10:17 a.m. (ET)
CHULA VISTA, CA - The U-19 Junior National Team kicked off a four game test series against Canada with a 0-1 loss.  The team came out with a lot of enthusiasm after only one and half days of training. This game was the first competition this group has played together.

“Canada’s quick tempo challenged us as we tried to identify and develop our team structure,” said Assistant Coach Pam Bustin.

The first half was scoreless for both teams, but at the 48 minute mark Canada broke through and found the back of the net off of a field goal by Emma Plasteras.

The team was excited and nervous to step on the pitch, but they knew there was a specific goal for the game. The junior team has been working on structure and today was the first opportunity to test it in a game situation. “The team came out full force with effort and enthusiasm to implement a new style of play; a style of play that we structure after the Women’s National Team," said Bustin.

With three games ahead of them and a five game test series in Chile next month, this team is optimistic about the progress they can make and success they can earn.

Adrianna Crovo made her debut in the red white and blue or for her, a yellow goalkeeper jersey.  She had a great first on pitch appearance and protected the net from an aggressive Canadian side.

The next match up will be Wednesday, March 16 at 3pm at the Olympic Training Center.  Entrance if free, come cheer the USA on!!
