VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA – The 2011 National Indoor Tournament (NIT) concluded Sunday, March 13, after back to back weekends of fierce competition. The Under-14 and Under-16 Girls NIT's presented by Yolo Sportswear and held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center included one hundred and twenty eight teams and over 1,300 athletes for the weekend long event. The weekend prior, the Greater Richmond Convention Center hosted one hundred and twenty four teams for Under-19 Girls and Under-20 boys and an estimated 1,300 athletes as well.

“This was by the far the largest National Indoor Tournament to date,” said Karen Collins, Director of Event Logistics at USA Field Hockey. “We look forward to working with the Virginia Beach Convention Center and the Greater Richmond Convention Center to provide an even better event for 2012.”

According to JBS Destination Solutions, USA Field Hockey’s Official Housing Service, approximately thirty hotels were used to house field hockey athletes, parents and staff, with roughly 2,400 room nights booked.  Over the two weekends, field hockey athletes and enthusiasts occupied roughly 4,600 room nights and sixty different hotels in the two cities. Take into consideration restaurant reservations, car rentals and shopping, an event of this size undoubtedly has a positive impact on the local economy.
