COLORADO SPRINGS, C.O.- USA Field Hockey is delighted to announce Steve Horgan (Wilmington, DE) has accepted a part-time position as National Umpire and Technical Manager, effective immediately. Horgan will be based in Wilmington, DE and will work directly with Laura Darling, Director of Olympic, Athlete Development and Partnerships.

“I am very honored and excited to be part of the USA Field Hockey organization,” said Horgan. “I look forward to working with everyone from High Performance to Local Umpiring Boards to educate and advance umpiring along with the mission of USA Field Hockey.”

Horgan’s main responsibilities as the National Umpire and Technical Manager will include creating a level of umpiring consistency through all levels of play and boost the quantity of umpires for both the outdoor and indoor game of field hockey.

Horgan has extensive umpire and technical experience, including involvement in two Olympic Games and two International Hockey Federation (FIH) World Cups, along with 85 International matches. Currently Horgan serves as the Rules Interpreter for both USA Field Hockey and the NCAA.

“Steve brings to the position local, national, and international umpiring experience, along with an amazing passion and dedication to the development and growth of umpires,” said Darling. “Having a National leader with their primary focus our umpires is a much needed step.  Steve has lofty goals and is very excited to begin working closely with our umpires to provide a consistent educational process, improved rating system and a national development network. He will liaison with the FIH, PAHF, NCAA, NFHCA, and NFHS to ensure our rules are consistent throughout the USA.”
