Iran Victorious Over USA

Feb. 11, 2011, 6:33 p.m. (ET)
USA fell to Iran today in their fifth match at the Indoor World Cup. Iran, who beat the Russians on Wednesday, celebrated another victory and finished the preliminary round ranked fifth.

Iran took an early lead but the lead did not last long. Thomas Krauss tied the score for USA soon following Iran's goal. Iran had an excellent second goal with a  deflection into the net, again taking the lead from USA.

Fourteen minutes before the end of the match, USA replaced goalkeeper Kevin Segeren with Steven Danielson as a sixth field player. The USA saw more ball possession and had more scoring opportunities but were unable to follow through on any. After three minutes Segeren went back on the field. Iran would score two more goals before the end of the match, with the final score 2-6 in favor of Iran.

USA will play Namibia tomorrow at 9:30am local CET/3:30am EST.
