ESPN3 broadcast two matches today, during day one of Disney's Field Hockey Showcase. Despite a cancelled flight, Amy Tran (Grantville, PA), Women's National Team goalkeeper, arrived at ESPN Wide World of Sports just hours before the live coverage to commentate.
The live coverage featured Connecticut Revolution verses Pinnacle and Quik Stix Elite verses Viper Red. Both games can be viewed on ESPN3.com. Direct links to the games are below.
Connecticut Revolution (Naugatuck, CT) and Pinnacle (Ann Arbor, Michigan) saw a lot of action in the first half, but not a lot of scoring. Neither teams were able to put the ball in the goal before the end of the first half. Nearly twenty minutes past in the second half and the score was still 0-0. Pinnacle finally capitalized on one of their scoring opportunties with a deflection into the net. With less than thirty seconds left, Connecticut Revolution took advantage of their first penalty corner in the second half and tied up the score 1-1, which would be the final score of the match.
Viper Red Elite (Collegesville, PA) was able to get two goals past Quik Stix Elite (Plainfield, NJ) during the first half of the match. Unfortunately, Quik Stix Elite was unable to get any shots off on goal. Quick Stix scored first in the second half, however, Viper Red found two more scoring opportunties before the end of the second half. The match concluded with a Viper Red Elite victory, 4-1.
