Astroturf® Adds Field Hockey Legend Pam Hixon to Staff

(DALTON, GA) - AstroTurf® announced today, at USA Field Hockey’s Disney Field Hockey Showcase in Orlando, the addition of hall-of-fame field hockey coach and player Pam Hixon as its ambassador to the sport.

AstroTurf® System 12 fields have been the preferred surface of field hockey teams around the world for nearly five decades.  The knitted nylon surface provides the truest ball roll, proper ball speed, and predictable, consistent ball bounce on the world’s most consistent playing surface.

The Dalton, Georgia based company is consistently the choice for field installations and Hixon provides an extra edge because of her massive presence in the sport and ability to provide guidance in the design and development of AstroTurf® products.

Hixon, who earned eight varsity letters in field hockey, softball, and basketball at Springfield College, played for the U.S. National Team for 10 years.

She coached field hockey, lacrosse, and basketball at Springfield College, as well as field hockey and lacrosse at the University of Massachusetts.  As a coach, she never had a losing season, and led UMass to four Atlantic 10 titles, 14 NCAA tournaments, four Final Four appearances, and a second place finish.  She is the fifth winningest coach in NCAA field hockey history.

Hixon was honored for her coaching abilities with six Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year awards and one Collegiate Coach of the Year award.  She coached five Olympians, one national player of the year, and 29 of 34 All-Americans at UMass. 

Hixon coached the U.S. National team for four years, winning the bronze medal at the 1994 World Cup and finishing fifth at the 1996 Olympics.

As if field hockey wasn’t enough, she never had a losing season as a lacrosse coach and made it to eight post-season tournaments.  In 1982, her UMass team won the NCAA Championship.

Today, she runs White Mountain Sports-College Connection, a company which hosts summer camps.  The company also works with prospective student-athletes during the recruiting process.

Hixon is a member of the halls of fame at Springfield College, the University of Massachusetts, and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
