In today’s game against the Czech Republic, the USA Men’s Indoor Team was unable to reach again the heights they achieved yesterday against England. The first 20 minutes saw the USA create the most attacking chances of any half in the tournament. Unfortunately, the USA could not convert any of the open play chances or the corners they won. The Czechs drew on their extensive indoor experience and finished well three of the limited chances they had. Jason Wellings made good saves on the others. Trailing 3-0 at half-time, the USA tried to work its way back into the game, but Wednesday’s two games took their toll. Tired legs and tired minds found it hard to hold out the Czechs. They increased their lead to 7-0 before Pat Harris finished a move to put the USA on the score board. The final score was 8-1.
After three creditable results, the USA had an off day. The team needs to regroup for its challenging match on Friday against Iran.
The USA indoor team on tour is Kevin Segeren, Jason Wellings, Christoph Winter, Rob Schilling, Tim Krauss, Moritz Runzi, Pat Harris, Steve Mann, Sean Harris, Steve Danielson, Shawn Hindy and Pat Cota. Nigel Traverso is the manager, Brian Brata of Michigan State University is the athletic trainer, Marijn Petermeijer is the video analyst/assistant coach and Peter Jones is the Head Coach. Also assisting the team in Poznan is Goalie Coach Heiko Milz of Magic Goalies and video assistant Ashley Jones of Greenwich Academy.
The USA Indoor program is grateful to the USFHA, USFHF and the US Men’s Field Hockey Foundation for supporting its Indoor World Cup preparations and participation and to Asics for outfitting the team.
