Disney’s Field Hockey Showcase Kicks Off Tomorrow

ORLANDO, FLORIDA – The 2011 Disney Field Hockey Showcase begins tomorrow at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida. Over the next four days, 144 teams and over 1,700 field hockey athletes from around the country, will compete in multiple matches and showcase their talent to top college recruiters.

“We are very excited for this year’s Showcase,” said Karen Collins, Director or Events and Logistics. “This is the largest number of teams this event has ever had. The fields look beautiful and are a big improvement from previous years. It is going to be a great tournament.”

This tournament originated five years ago with just 56 teams. In five years, Disney’s Showcase has just about tripled in size and filled up in a matter of seconds.

For the first time in the history of this tournament, ESPN 3 will broadcast two matches on opening day, Thursday, February 10. The matches will feature live commentary by Amy Tran, USA Women's National Team member and a halftime interview with Missy Meharg, Head Coach at the University of Maryland and recently named as the No. 5 top recruiter in all of college sports.

The two games will be broadcasted at 2:00pm and 3:00pm featuring Connecticut Revolution vs. Pinnacle and Quik Stix vs. Viper Red. Both games will be played on Field #17 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports. Anyone interested in viewing should visit www.espn3.com.  If you do not have ESPN 3, contact your local cable provider.
