USA Men’s Indoor National Team Ready for World Cup
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – The USA Men's National Indoor Hockey Team gathered on Tuesday, February 1, in Berlin for final preparations before the 3rd International Hockey Federation Indoor World Cup, beginning February 8 in Poznan, Poland.
USA played three periods against Mariendorf, who recently won promotion to the German First Division. Effects of jet-lag were evident, as USA had difficulty getting started. The USA trailed 3-1 after the first twenty minutes and 5-2 after forty minutes, before coming roaring back to finish with a 8-6 win. The game was played in good spirit and Mariendorf demonstrated the skill that helped them to a successful 2010-2011 Indoor season. The USA will train four times in Berlin and play two more matches before catching a train to Poznan.
On Thursday, February 3, the USA played Zehlendorfer Wespen, an indoor first division team from Berlin. Wespen posed some real problems for the USA team in the first half and led 5-2 at the break. USA made some adjustments at half time and won the second half 4-3, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit and thus lost 6-8. It was a very useful game for the USA as it allowed some adjustments to be made prior to the World Cup.
On Saturday, February 6, the team will catch an express train to Poznan for the Indoor World Cup.
The following athletes complete the Indoor World Cup roster: Kevin Segeren (Twin Falls, Idaho), Jason Wellings (San Diego, CA), Christoph Winter (Easton, Pa), Robert Schilling (Long Beach, CA), Thomas Krauss (New York City, NY), Moritz Runzi (Boston, MA), Pat Harris (Moorpark, CA), Steve Mann (New York City, NY), Sean Harris (Moorpark, CA), Steven Danielson (San Francisco, CA), Shawn Hindy (Lehighton, Pa), Pat Cota (San Francisco, CA).
