History was made this past Saturday when thirty-two coed field hockey players and many fans gathered at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA for a match against the Coronado Islanders and the Pacific Beach Panthers.
Three teams comprise the newly constructed Asics league, including the Coronado Islanders, the Pacific Beach Panthers and the Point Loma Suns.
The match held on Saturday, January 29 provided excitement and entertainment for all. With a final score of 4-1, with the Panthers on top, there was plenty of action. Panther’s Men's National Team member Jon Ginolfi and Men’s National Team Coach Nick Conway scored first half goals.
In the second half, Christian Linney scored for the Panthers to take the score to 3-0. The Islanders continued to fight back and were able to put just one goal on the board. It came from youngster and Futures star Lindsey Walter. In the 66th minute Conway found the back of the goal again with a shoulder high deflection into the net.
The next ASICS league game will be this Saturday, February 5 at 12pm PST. The Point Loma Suns will face the Pacific Beach Panthers.
