USA U-17 records first win on international tour

April 19, 2011, 6:41 p.m. (ET)

COLORADO SPRINGS, C.O. – The USA U-17 Women’s National Team touched down at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam at 6:45am, after nearly 15 hours of travel and a red eye flight. The first of five matches was played at 5:45pm (local time) against EMHC Eindhoven. USA played three, twenty minute periods and defeated EHMC with a final score of 7-1.

USA got on the boards early with a drag flick by Anna Dessoye (Mountaintop, Pa) in the fifth minute of the match. Allyssa Chillano (Phoenixville, Pa) cranked a shot on EHMC’s goalie, that put USA up 2-0 going into the second period.

Again, USA came out quick and was able to get a third goal on the boards with a tip-in by Kelley Stump (Allentown, Pa) in the first three minutes of play. Only a few minutes following, Kelcie Hromisin (Larksville, Pa) fired a shot to EMHC's goalie’s left side. A third goal would come from Dessoye, her second of the match, with a strike from the top left of the circle.

USA was able to hold EHMC scoreless until the third period when a shot slipped by USA goalkeeper. USA put in two more goals before the end of the third period, including Gabrielle Major (Royersford, Pa) beating the EHMC goalkeeper on a breakaway.

“Today the offense managed a structured attack and did a good job converting scoring opportunities,” said Shellie Onstead, Head Coach. “Tomorrow I expect the defense to be under a lot more pressure.”

Three players on the team traveled internationally for the first time. For all but one player, this tour is their first with the USA U-17 National Team. Following the completion of the match, EMHC Head Coach complimented the team on the “surprisingly high level of play.”
