Men Prepare For Third Game After Two Tough Losses

Sept. 12, 2010, 12 a.m. (ET)

CARDIFF, Wales - As the USA Men's National Team prepares for its third and final game of the Wales portion of their tour, they do so knowing they have one more chance to come away with victory. After suffering yet another two losses in the opening games of the series, Team USA looks to rebound Monday afternoon in Cardiff.

The first game of the three game set started on even terms as the teams looked well matched. However, in the 9th minute Wales took advantage of a penalty corner opportunity and quickly took the lead 1-0 in the early going. Team USA would keep the deficit at one with their defense throughout most of the half but was unable to capitalize on any of their offensive circle penetrations. Wales would strike again in the 33rd minute when they sent an outlet pass across the field, which was quickly passed into the offensive circle for a deflection shot that went past goalkeeper Kevin Segeren giving Wales a 2-0 lead heading into the half.

The USA defense tightened up in the second half but the two goal deficit would be too much as the USA offense simply could not find the goal in the first match of the series. As time expired, Wales walked away with a 2-0 victory leaving Team USA with another loss on their UK Tour.

With a little more than 12 hours between games, the men's field hockey team from America found themselves back on the pitch Saturday morning to meet Wales for game two of their three game matchup. With the prospect of fighting off fatigue after 22 days of traveling, the men from the US had trouble dealing with the high-pressure attack from Wales and conceded six goals throughout the match. Though they scored three goals themselves it would be the mental errors that would give Wales open looks at the goal throughout the match and the 6-3 victory to take game 2 of the series.

With Sunday having served as a rest day for the boys from the States, Game 3 looks to be a competitive match with Team USA looking for the win! As always, check facebook and the USA Field Hockey website for updates and let's get one for USA!!!
